When is a good time to start planning a newborn session?
Newborn sessions are great to begin planning early. With calendar days booking out it is best to get your day on the books for these sooner the better. We can adjust dates as needed if baby arrives early or later than when they are planned.
What about special outfits, accessories or props?
While we have some wraps, and accessories/props for you to use for your newborn session, we highly suggest ordering early anything you want to arrive before your session. This way you will be sure to have it long before your booking day. If you need suggestions, I am happy to help. Keep in mind, baby showers make for a great time to get wraps and special memorabilia to use at your session.
Who is all included in the newborn session?
We love to keep the newborn sessions exclusively to immediate family, this being parents of the little one, siblings and any fur babies you might have. We offer extended family portrait sessions for pictures with grandparents to keep those memories as well when your little one is a couple months older. This way all of the focus is kept to baby in the newborn sessions. It is the goal for half of the shoot to have portraits of just your little one and the other half pictures with siblings, pets, and parents.
Where is the best place to take pictures in our home for our session?
Lifestyle newborn portraits are best captured in baby’s nursery, parents room or in the living room area. Once arriving at your home I can make a decision if a location might be better for light or staging when arriving but typically those spaces allow for the most light, and space when photographing your little one and the family.
What should we wear for our session?
I will help you in planning outfits that match your style/color theme you are going with for. Keep in mind, neutral colors are best, this makes baby the focal point in the portraits. Patterns are something that should be kept to a minimal, coordinating colors to match with those patterns for the rest of the family. Logos should also be kept to minimal ones on clothing as to keep your portraits timeless and less distracting.
Hair & Makeup for sessions?
While we do not offer hair and makeup on our packages, I know many in the industry who I can refer you to. Hair and makeup will make your portraits have that added touch to them. It also allows you to relax before your session getting pampered beforehand. Men should be sure hair and nails are trimmed and kept up. It is the little details like this that will make all the difference in the end.
